Jasell Camacho died just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13, on Lyman Street, the Hampden County District Attorney said. Police responded to the area after receiving a ShotSpotter alert.
They found Camacho splayed out on the sidewalk near the intersection of Lyman and High streets, bleeding from a bullet wound. Responders attempted to save his life, but they were unable to. They pronounced him dead at the scene, the prosecutor's office said.
A short time later, a man showed up at Holyoke Medical Center, where doctors treated him for a gunshot wound. He is expected to survive, police said. Officials did not release his name.
Investigators believe he was wounded in the same shooting that killed Camacho.
Soon after the shooting, several of Camacho's friends and family posted memorials to him online.
Amber Diamond said she hopes he is in a better place with other family members who died too young.
You wasn’t the youngest but you was definitely the baby in the family. The one we most worried about. Now youre in the safest place can be, surrounded by some of the ppl you loved the most but damn it man!!! We still needed more time with you here. Until we meet again.
